Thomas Carrington’s sister Betty Carrington was a Burwell School student the same age as neighbors Lizzie and Lucy Watkins. Their parents were Dr. William W. Carrington and Jane W. Carrington, cousins. The family first lived in Port Royal, VA, then in Halifax County, VA. Thomas was their second son.
Thomas Carrington enlisted in the Confederate Army in Granville County, NC at age 24, on July 17. 1861. By this time he was married and the father of a daughter, Jane. His rank upon enlistment was 3rd Lieutenant in Company 1, NC 23rd Infantry Regiment. He left the service a Brevet 2nd Lt..
Little is known of Thomas after the Civil War except that he is listed on US Census forms as “farming.”
His middle name is sometimes spelled Read.
