John Madison Stedman

John Madison Stedman was one of four surviving sons of prominent early settler of Cumberland County, NC and Fayetteville, NC, Elisha Stedman and his wife Mary Stedman. He is the father of Burwell student Eliza W. Stedman .

John died in 1858, of drowning. He drowned at Whitehall Landing [1].

• Spouse: Olivia Potter, married in 1833. They had four daughters, Mary O. Stedman, Margaretta Harbert Stedman, Olivia Stedman and Susan W. Stedman.
• Other children: one daughter (Eliza W. Stedman (b. 1838) ).
• Sibling: one brother, James Owen Stedman (d. 1882).
• Others: Ellen Stedman (niece), James Stedman (nephew), Mary cousin Stedman (niece), Stella Stedman (niece) and Mary Woodell (granddaughter, b. 1863).
